This nineteenth century smock dress, with motifs of iron pots and lighthouses, is made from seaweeds gathered from the Iron Pot Lighthouse vicinity which were then processed to form paper.
The Iron Pot Lighthouse has guided ships safely into the port of Hobart since 1832. It was named after a whalers’ pot found at the site.
Essie Margaret Roberts, born there in 1895, was the only child born at the lighthouse.
